The Gutter Installation Process

Professional gutter installation follows a systematic process that ensures performance, compliance, and longevity.

Step 1 — Measurement & Specification: We measure the full gutter run length for each elevation, note the roof catchment area, identify downpipe positions, and determine the required gutter fall direction. For replacement gutters, we inspect the fascia board condition and note any damage requiring repair before new gutters are fixed.

Step 2 — Old Gutter Removal (Replacements): Existing gutters are carefully removed to avoid damaging the fascia, roof sheeting, or tile overhang. All old brackets, screws, and sealant residue are cleaned from the fascia face. The fascia is inspected for rot, termite damage, or structural weakness — any compromised sections are replaced with treated timber before new gutters are installed.

Step 3 — Bracket Installation & Fall Setting: Gutter brackets are fixed to the fascia at specified centres (typically 900 mm, reduced in high-wind areas), with a consistent fall of minimum 1:500 towards downpipe outlets. Fall is set using a string line or laser level to ensure water drains completely without pooling — standing water in gutters accelerates corrosion and creates mosquito breeding habitat.

Step 4 — Gutter Fixing & Sealing: Gutter lengths are joined using pre-formed internal joiners with polyurethane sealant for a watertight connection. End caps are sealed and riveted. The gutter is clipped into brackets and checked for alignment across its full length. All joints and penetrations receive additional sealant for complete waterproofing.

Step 5 — Downpipe Connection: Downpipes are positioned to serve each gutter run, connected via pop outlets cut into the gutter base and sealed with neoprene adaptors. Downpipes are fixed to the wall with pipe brackets at maximum 1.8 m centres and connected to ground-level stormwater drainage via appropriate adaptors, spreaders, or drainage pits.

Step 6 — Testing & Handover: The complete system is water-tested to verify flow to all outlets, confirm no pooling or backfall, and check all joints for leaks. We clean up completely and provide documentation of the work completed, including material specifications and warranty information.

Full Gutter Replacement & Re-Guttering on the Gold Coast

Full gutter replacement — commonly called re-guttering — is the process of removing the existing gutter system in its entirety and installing new guttering across every elevation of the property. Re-guttering is the right choice when the current system has reached genuine end-of-life rather than a single localised failure: widespread rust across multiple runs, an obsolete profile that can no longer be section-matched, repeated joint failures across different elevations, or fascia damage extending behind most of the gutter length.
