The complete Gold Coast pricing guide — electric, gas, heat pump and solar. Real 2026 supply-and-install ranges, rebates, and when repair beats replacement.
A hot water system on the Gold Coast typically costs $1,200 to $8,500 supplied and installed in 2026, depending on the type. Electric storage runs $1,200–$2,200, gas storage $1,600–$2,800, gas continuous flow $1,900–$3,400, heat pump $3,500–$5,500 (with STC rebate applied at point of sale), and solar hot water $4,500–$8,500. The biggest single factor. Electric storage is cheapest to install (from $1,200), solar hot water is most expensive (up to $8,500) — but running cost is inverse: electric is highest to run, solar and heat pump lowest. Choose based on total cost of ownership, not just the install price.
A 125L electric unit for a couple is cheaper than a 400L unit for a family of six. Gas continuous flow is sized by flow rate (16L/min for a 2-bathroom home, 26L/min for larger homes). We size to your household — undersized systems run cold, oversized systems waste money.
Like-for-like replacement in the same spot is cheapest — existing water, gas or electrical connections reused. Relocating the unit, adding a new gas line, running new circuits, or fitting a heat pump where a tank previously sat all add cost. Solar requires roof access and additional plumbing to the tank.
Reputable Australian brands — Rheem, Rinnai, Dux, Aquamax, Sanden — carry longer manufacturer warranties (5–10 years on the tank, 3–5 years on parts) and cost more up-front than budget brands. Over the life of the unit the reputable brands almost always work out cheaper.
Small-scale Technology Certificates reduce the effective cost of solar and heat pump systems by $600–$1,500 depending on system size and location. We apply the STC discount at point of sale — the price you see already includes it.
Element, thermostat, valve, ignition and gas-fault repairs typically cost $250–$900. Extending the life of a unit under 8 years old is almost always cheaper than replacing it, especially if the tank itself is in good condition.
Rust visible on the tank, anode never replaced, or repeated repairs stacking up — replacement is the smarter option. Newer units are more energy-efficient too, so running-cost savings help offset the up-front investment.
